Project Pause
Project Pause is a way to learn more about yourself as a creative musician and to find space for yourself in a fast-paced field. It is a self-led, self-motivated, and self-taught concept. The goal of Project Pause is to take space, take a beat, and pause, from the traditional way of doing things to explore individual creativity and expression. A Pause can be a rest, a fermata, or an interruption of anything.
Evaluate your relationship with your art. Explore how pausing will help you feel more confident, comfortable, and creative. Create more performance opportunities. Build community. Find an authentic voice. Improve accessibility for your art, music, or instrument. Make space for new ideas, and depart from traditional practices or ideas.
I am doing my Project Pause because I am tired of waiting for an "invitation" to perform the music I love, and I'm tired of art music being inaccessible, pompous, and elitist. My personal goals for Project Pause are: To grow as a performer, create more opportunities to find an authentic voice. Improve accessibility for art music and the viola. Make fun and inviting concert experiences. To find and build a community around creative expression. Present "classical music" in a welcoming manner. To explore mindfulness as a musical tool. To perform because I want to, I can and am capable.
If you choose to do your own Project Pause, you can make it look however you'd like it to as long as the goal of mindful creativity in whatever space of time is kept at its core. Use #projectpausemusic to show how you may be using this project for your development :)
